Field Trips

Field trips give students educational experiences away from their regular school environment. Not only do field trips provide alternative educational opportunities for children, but they are also a way to bring the students closer together. Many field trips combine educational content with team-building activities.

Students visiting different educational facilities learn in a more hands-on and interactive manner than they do in school. Field trips give children a welcome break in routine. Kids can look forward to and prepare for the field trip for several days or weeks. Then, they get to spend the day in a different learning environment and can complete a lesson on the topic covered after the trip is over.

Animal Learning Lab

Fundraising for the Animal Learning Laboratory began in September of 2013, with both private donations and school district funding. Donations towards this project were also accepted through the VSCSD Foundation. The lab was completed in the Fall of 2014.

The Animal Learning Lab provides a unique opportunity to enhance the Animal Science and Veterinary Technician classes now offered at VSHS. The lab also serves as a second Ag classroom to accommodate a second teacher as the program continues to grow. Whatever the future holds, students will have hands-on instruction concerning horses, cattle, swine, sheep, poultry, and companion animals. This is a project that provides an excellent opportunity for Vinton-Shellsburg students and has received community-wide support.
