Children Arriving at School

… if you can change a classroom, you can change a community, and if you change enough communities you can change the world.

Our foundation recognizes that state funding for public education in Iowa is not keeping up with the increasing costs of providing services for our students. This local organization devotes resources to the physical and emotional well-being of our Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District students because we believe those needs are equally important to all students and our staff. Illness, emotional distress, extreme need, and disruption caused by conflict degrade the learning experience for all students and make it more difficult for staff members to be fully engaged in student learning.

We believe providing enriched educational opportunities improves learning for all students and not only those from families that might struggle to provide those experiences on their own. Our goal is to use the creativity and generosity of our district’s patrons to provide exemplary educational opportunities beyond what traditional resources currently allow.

Through the VSCSDF, donors have complete assurance that 100% of their gifts will reach the group of students or programs that they wish to support. Gifts can be designated for specific purposes or left undesignated for meeting needs determined jointly by the Foundation and the school district.

Our all-volunteer organization board works hard to provide responsible stewardship of all donations, whether large or small, and to reward the donor’s generosity by honoring the donor’s wishes.

We are proud to support initiatives that include educational field trips, extra instructional materials, health assistance for students in need, advanced training for teachers, innovative reading programs, assistance for students financially unable to participate in extracurricular activities, improved facilities, and scholarships for graduating students.
